TITLE: Really That Gullible
'Check mate' Athrun stated after making a move with his knight. Dearka, folding his arms over his chest where he stood, casually leaning against a wall, glanced nervously at Yzak, who glared at his pieces af if they'd betrayed him, making a growling sound deep in his throat, before...
'KUSOOO!!'
CRACK
Athrun sighed. This was getting way too rutine; Yzak challenges him for chess, he beats Yzak, who furiously breaks the chess board before storming out, leaving Athrun to sigh over the annoying rutine... Athrun looks over at Dearka.
'How do you manage it?' Dearka looks away from the door, through which Yzak just stormed out, and over at Athrun.
'"It", being?'
'
Him.'
'Yzak?'
'Yes.'
Dearka sighs, rolling his eyes.
'I mean it. I don't envy you, having to share a room with him. Honestly, how do you manage, and then be able to get up - alive – in the mornings?'
'He's not always...' Dearka picks up the broken chess board, studying it, lips quirking slightly upwards 'like this. It's just losing - to you, especially - that brings out the worst in him.'
'What, so you mean he's usually all angelic?' Athrun says, snorting at the mere thought. Dearka just shrugs lightly.
'Sorry Dearka, but you can't expect me to believe that. Do you hear yourself? Are you trying to tell me that Yzak – Yzak "some temper" Jule - actually calms down every once in a while? And that I've somehow missed that side of him during all these years I've known the guy?'
'Something like that.'
Athrun is quiet for about ten seconds, before shaking his head amusedly.
'And here I was thinking what a wonder it was that you came out perfectly sane after living with Yzak. Clearly, I was wrong about the "sane" part.'
'Perhaps you just don't know him well enough?' Dearka suggests, putting the very broken chess board down again. 'Anyway, I'm off for a couple of days, and I need to pack. Don't kill each other while I'm gone, ok? No violent chess games or such.'
'I believe the person you might want to tell to behave, went off somewhere in that direction' Athrun drawls, waving a hand lazily in the direction where Yzak disappeared.
'I'll be sure to tell him, too' Dearka smirks. 'I trust you to clean up in here. I'll see you around in a couple of days.'
'Yeah, see you' Athrun says, turning back to pick up stray chess pieces.
'And just for your reference, I don't
have to live with Yzak - but I
want to.' Athrun looks up to comment, but Dearka has already walked away.
'Hey, Yzak?'
'What?' Yzak snaps at Dearka.
'Geez, calm down, will you? I was just coming to remind you that I'm away for a couple of days.' Yzak looks up from a pile of papers on his desk.
'Are you going already?'
'Yup.'
'You do realize that you're leaving me alone here with
him, right?' Yzak frowns unhappily. Him, Dearka and Athrun was stationed together for a few weeks, and he didn't like it much. It was still two weeks until the new staff would arrive, and so the three had the ship to themselves for the time being.
'Yes, and I expect you to behave whilst I'm gone, got it?' Dearka says, only half joking.
'Well, you tell that bastard, not me!' Dearka chuckles, deciding not to point out that Athrun said pretty much the same thing.
'Don't worry, I've told him, too.'
'Yes, well, that doesn't change the fact that I'll be alone in the room.' Yzak mutters, still not happy about it. The smirk on Dearka's face changes to a more gentle smile.
'I'll only be gone for two days, I'll be back before you start missing me.'
'Who says I'm going to miss you, you ass.' Yzak says, folding his arms over his chest defiantly. 'I'll be busy with paperwork all weekend, you know.'
'Aren't you? Gonna miss me, I mean?' Dearka asks him curiously.
'Idiot' Yzak says, turning back to his papers. Trying to look busy, he mumbles something that anyone else would've missed. Dearka isn't anyone though, and he catches the words easily, a genuine smile forming on his lips. Though he's not about to let Yzak off the hook just yet.
'Huh? Sorry, I didn't quite catch that.' He says, smirking. Yzak doesn't answer. 'Yzak?' Said person slams the papers back down on the desk, glaring at Dearka. He knows he heard him, but he also knows his friend won't give up before he actually say it out loud.
'I said
yes, of course I'll miss you! Happy?' he spits out.
'Very' Dearka smiles at him. Yzak's glare almost disappears and a small albeit sad smile appears on his face.
There! Athrun puts the last of his finished paperwork away. He had loads of paperwork, and he wanted to finish it early. He stretches on his chair, glancing over at the clock. He hasn't seen Yzak more than once in the dining hall since Dearka left. He's probably been getting some work done as well, Athrun figures.
Suddenly he remembers what Dearka told him about Yzak. He's still bothered by it, even if he'd never admit it. He thought he knew everything about Yzak by now. The hotheaded pilot didn't exactly make a point of disguising his true self and his opinions. Sure, it made sense that he'd be a bit different in private, but could it really be enough of a difference for Dearka to bother mentioning it? There was something disturbing with this picture.
He stood up suddenly, getting an idea that was as brilliant as it was stupid. He would simply sneak into Yzak and Dearka's room to observe Yzak's behavior. He realized he was about to do something very out of character for him - for no reason at all, really - but he was bored, and Kira wouldn't visit him in a couple of days yet. Kira. He knew his close friend probably wouldn't agree with his plan, telling him how Yzak had the right to some privacy. Athrun decided not to think about the little details.
Yzak yawns as he comes out of their room with a small pile of papers. It's already late at night, and he don't plan on falling asleep yet. Athrun watches him walk towards the office to send them down to the right people, and as soon as he's out of sight, Athrun sneaks into the room. Yzak didn't bother closing or locking the door, meaning he'll probably be back before long. He looks around for a place to hide, and soon finds the perfect place. And it's good that he did, because Yzak's already back. Quickly Athrun hides behind two bookshelves. There's enough of space for him to stand up, it's perfect, he thinks as he holds his breath, praying that Yzak won't find him.
He sits down carefully, leaning his back against the wall, watching as Yzak sits down on the chair infront of his desk, scowling at some thing or another before shaking his head as if clearing it from thoughts.
Athrun is feeling satisfied with himself. He somewhat sullenly remembered how Klueze had removed him from the sniper squad, amusedly telling him that he wasn't really "sniper material". Athrun still felt offended when he thought back, and he dedicated a moment to smugly decide that he still remembered everything he learnt in sniper training back then.
Yzak frowns a little, he's pretty much done with his own paperwork, but Dearka will be buried in his by the time he gets back. He looks at the time. It's late at night already, and Dearka won't be back before later come day. He sighs, stands up and walks over to Dearka's desk.
Athrun watches as Yzak picks up the pile of papers from Dearka's desk, returning to his own where he sits down with a bored sigh. Athrun can't help but be a bit surprised. He'd imagined Yzak going to bed as soon as he finished his own work, not to stay up with Dearka's as well.
Still, not enough to convince me... he thinks. Dearka might've paid him to do his work, or perhaps Yzak lost a bet or something.
He keeps watching Yzak throughout the night. Yzak never slacks off, and when the morning arrives, he's almost finished all of Dearka's papers as well. Then he suddenly slumps down over the desk, pen still in hand. Athrun has to smile; if it was anyone but Yzak, he'd say he was a bit cute like that. But this was Yzak, and Yzak wasn't cute, only stubborn.
About an hour later, Athrun jumps a little as the door opens with a hissing sound.
Dearka, he realizes. And true enough, Dearka walks into the room, closing the door after himself.
'Yzak?' he calls out, before catching sight of his friend, still sleeping at the desk. He smiles and walks up to him, picking up a paper curiously. He'd thought that Yzak would've finished his work by now. His eyes widens a little and he spins around to look at his own desk, and the absence of papers on it. He looks back at Yzak, shaking his head a little.
'Yzak' he says quietly to himself, taking off his own jacket, 'didn't I tell you not to work yourself to death?' He sighs and throws his jacket away. Athrun is quite shocked as Dearka carefully lifts Yzak, carrying him to his bed. Dearka makes sure not to wake him up as he switches to hold Yzak with only one arm, lifting the covers and putting Yzak down.
Dearka looks down at Yzak fondly, and start taking off his shoes and jacket. Athrun gets a bit red, he's not going to undress him... all the way, is he? He looks away a little as Dearka removes Yzak's pants and leaves him in only boxers and a t-shirt. Deciding it's safe to look back as Dearka folds the clothes and put them on the chair, Athrun cusiously looks up again, only to regret it as he sees Dearka in only boxers. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea? He can almost hear Kira reprimand him about respecting the privacy of others.
Dearka slips down under the covers in...
Yzak's bed. Athrun's eyes widens and he almost burst out coughing at the sight. He blushes furiously as Dearka leans over Yzak to kiss him lightly in the face, before laying down, resting his eyes. Athrun doubts he's asleep, and so he stays quiet, careful not to make any sounds to reveal himself.
Athrun is almost a bit annoyed. Can't Yzak wake up soon? He want to get some sleep as well! He knows he's being unfair, he's the one hiding in
their room, but he's tired and he didn't come here to watch them sleep! As if they could hear him, Yzak stirs in his sleep, and soon opens his eyes.
Huh, where-? Yzak is a bit disoriented as he wakes up. Feeling a warm body behind him, he turns over on his back, only to meet the eyes of Dearka.
'Dearka!' He says happily, too dizzy from sleep to form something snappy as a greeting.
'Morning' Dearka smiles, sitting up, leaning against the headboard.
'When did you get back?' Yzak asks curiously.
'About three hours ago.'
'Why didn't you wake me up?'
'You looked too cute, sleeping on the desk' Dearka teases him.
'Hmph'
'No, honestly, you looked as if you needed the sleep. You probably didn't get enough sleep this weekend, did you?' Dearka says accusingly. It's not really a question.
Yzak shrugs, yawning as he sits up, slumping back against Dearka (unknowingly causing Athrun to blush) who puts his arms around Yzak (making Athrun silently question if this was such a good idea after all).
'Hey, Yzak?'
'Hm?'
'I told you not to work too hard, didn't I?'
'Mhmm...'
'You did my work as well.'
'Yes.'
'Why, baka? You've got work enough as it is, don't strain yourself like that' Dearka says, sounding a bit concerned.
'Purely selfish reasons' Yzak smirks. 'This way, you've got more time for me, right?'
Dearka laughs, hugging Yzak a bit closer, muttering something Athrun didn't quite catch.
'Mm... love you, too' Yzak says sincerely, leaning up to kiss Dearka (making Athrun go "WTF?" o_O).
Dearka smiles and kisses him back, first on the lips, then straying down his neck (making Athrun seriously reconsider his "brilliant" plan). Yzak just closes his eyes and smiles as Dearka keeps kissing his face and neck, shifting slightly to nibble lightly on his ear.
'Dearka...' Yzak groans.
'Hm?' Dearka looks up, and Yzak takes the chance to turn around fully in his lap, kissing him deeply. Athrun is meanwhile very much regretting that he even though about coming here, this was really not what he expected. He knew the both were close friends, but... this? Not that he had a problem with it, but he still didn't want to... his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the couple still kissing on the bed. He suddenly finds the pattern of the floor very fashination, and decides to study it for a while.
Suddenly Yzak breaks apart, panting slightly.
'Welcome back, Dearka' he says, smiling, 'but seriously, I'm not one for exhibition.' Athrun looks up sharply. Dearka laughs and looks straight at where Athrun is hiding. Yzak rolls his eyes, not even turning around as he addresses Athrun.
'Face it, Zala, there's a reason as to why you never made an elite sniper.' He didn't bother to keep the amusement out of his voice.
Athrun reluctantly realizes that he's been caught, and he stands up, trying to look as dignified as possible in this situation. Dearka is laughing hysterically by now and Yzak just smirks smugly.
'Enjoyed the show, Athrun?' Dearka gasps for air before bursting out in guffaws again.
'Should teach you not to try and sneak into our room again.'
'... I'm sorry.' Athrun says, still blushing beetroot red, not meeting Yzak's eyes. He's never felt this stupid before, honestly, what was he thinking?
'And you should be' Yzak frowns. 'I noticed you right away, but I figured I'd never find out what you wanted if I just threw you out. So, what do you want?'
'At least I don't think he found what he expected, am I right?' Dearka adds from where he's still wheezing on the bed, stomach sore from laughing.
'You're not... lovers at all, are you?' Athrun asks embarassedly. Yzak only rises an eyebrow and doesn't dignify that with an answer. Athrun gets the message. 'You tricked me.' He says, shaking his head in disbelief. He felt a strong urge to hit himself, how stupid was it possible to get? He should've known one of the best snipers on ZAFT wouldn't let himself be ambushed in his own room. And lovers? Yzak and Dearka? Of course ther weren't! He must've been really tired to fall for something as ludicrous as that. 'I should've known.'
'That's right, but don't try and change the subject, why are you here?' Dearka finally calmed down.
'That's-' he sighed. 'Sorry, I was bored, and I just wanted to find out if you acted different in private.' He flinched mentally at how vague it sounded even to him.
'That's it?' Yzak stared at him incredously.
'Yes. It didn't sound as stupid yesterday though...' Athrun mutters.
'I'm sure. Now,
do you mind? I would appreciate it if you would remove your sorry self from our room.' Yzak is getting a bit annoyed, so Athrun therefore hurries out of the room.
I guess all that paperwork made my brain go numb or something, Athrun thinks as he heads towards his own room. He didn't think he was
that gullible. He hoped Kira would never hear of this. But then again, Yzak and Dearka was involved. He groaned. They'd never let him live this down.
'He's really that gullible, isn't he?' Dearka mused out loud. Yzak snorted and buttoned upp his uniform. Leaning down to where Dearka sat, he kissed him softly in the corner of his mouth.
'That he is' he said as he felt Dearka smile against his lips.
