Fic based off of the new SEED Final + episode. Just a random idea considering the two were in it a bit more,so. ^_^

Things were looking up now, and everybody around seemed to look happy, tired but relieved that things were over.

Dearka was standing next to a red-coat, younger looking than him so he only assumed by this, that this was the young man's first war to fight in. Sort of lucky then, he thought.

Lined along with a number of other soldiers, they waited in silence for those two large doors to open. Something familiar to Dearka, everything had ended in confusion and left the people of PLANT lost, and desperately in need of somewhere, someone to turn to. While he was maybe a bit skeptical over a former pop-idol to be that person, he was aware of her wisdom and beliefs.

Not surprisingly (to himself, anyway), she wasn't the real subject of his thoughts. Yzak was going to be escorting her.

Until he had served under Yzak, Dearka never really had a sense of focused honor. Sure, he was swayed in the past and agreed with Athrun, joining the Archangel and sharing a good deal of their beliefs. But it wasn't until he was spoken to by Yzak about ZAFT after he came home did he realize a lot of things.

He had taught him a lot, being a part of the Voltaire and the Jule-team was a hell of a lot more of an honor than back in the days of the Vesalius and the Klueze-team. He knew Yzak well enough, while he had his share of strong beliefs, his sense of general honor and simple loyalty were much more appealing. They fought for the same reasons, not necessarily because they would always agree with ZAFT, but because as soldiers they wanted to protect their home, families, and each other.

A small smile to himself as the thought passed, they had sworn not to repeat the same mistakes again. He had stayed true to his promises, something he'd never really done before. He mentioned it in passing at one point in the past couple of days, half in jest, but Yzak had called it admirable.

Those doors finally opened. And while he was sure every other eye in the room was watching Lacus' every move, Dearka's eyes were on Yzak, who was walking in by her side. And through Yzak's focused expression, Dearka knew that he felt the same way he did, proud, and honored.
